An Iconic Company Begins

At the turn of the 20th century in Central New York, the Stickley brothers began putting a lasting mark on the American furniture industry. While Gustav introduced his ground-breaking Mission furniture, Leopold and John George Stickley formed a business eventually known as L.& J.G. Stickley, Inc. and laid the foundation for a brand that has lasted a century and a quarter. Their expert craftsmanship and business sense—as well as Leopold’s gift for adapting to changing customer tastes—gave the brand true staying power.

Renewal and Growth

In 1974, years after Leopold’s death, Alfred and Aminy Audi became the new owners of L. & J.G. Stickley, reviving the then-struggling company and building on the brothers’ legacy to cement Stickley’s place in furniture history. The years that followed have seen many accolades, including Alfred’s induction into the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame in 2008, then Aminy’s in 2015. And most recently, Stickley was named by the readers of Furniture Today as Best Luxury Furniture Company—proof that 125 years on, Stickley is still extraordinary!
